Today, Shields Trophy competitors were greeted by gray and not quite
blustery conditions for the final 3 races on the Chesapeake Bay off
Annapolis.

Navy started the day with a 9 pt lead on Mass Maritime and kept their foot
on the floor winning races 5 & 6 before blemishing their score line with a
6th in the last race but with victory already in hand. California Maritime
returned to their usual consistent form putting up a 2,3,1 to overtake Mass
Maritime for second. Mass sailed well with a 5,4,3 to hold on to third.

Special thanks to PRO Fred Dertsch and his crack RC team who started on
time, moved marks as necessary, and completed the full slate of 7 races as
well as Chief Judge Scott Kerwin, and his jury of Dick Morin and Mike
Brownlee whose services as it turned out, were not needed this weekend due
to good behavior on all competitors' parts.

Next up at Navy Offshore is the McMillan Cup 22 & 23 October.
