Can I spread the word to members of my team and other potential
participants?
-Absolutely! PLEASE DO!!! And Thanks.

How many times do I do a questionnaire? Is there ongoing commitment?
-You do what is essentially the same questionnaire only 2 times: before
and after watching and/or listening to material via the internet. Total
time commitment is one 40-50 minute sitting.

Is there a maximum number of participants?
-No. More is better.

Is there monetary compensation?
-No, sorry.

I did college sailing many years ago. Can I participate?
-No, sorry. But, after I run the study, I’ll make the materials available
for people to check out.

Can high school sailors participate?
-No, we’re keeping the parameters tight to keep the design more simple.
Perhaps we could do another study later.

Will results be posted after the study is complete?
-Individual responses will be kept confidential. If there is a lot of
interest, I can post general findings on the ICSA list serv. People are
also welcome to contact me to learn more or to see a copy of the final
dissertation.

> Dear College Sailors,
>
> While it has been some time since I was involved with college sailing,
some people on this list may know me from my time sailing at St. Mary’s
(1994-1998) or from subsequent years coaching at King’s Point and Boston
College.
>
> I’d like to invite your participation in a study examining the
effectiveness of a sailing imagery intervention that will be
administered via the internet, for my doctoral dissertation project
entitled, “Sailing Video-Imagery: Impacts on Imagery Ability.” The
research is being conducted by myself and supervised by Dr. Scott
Griffith, at Argosy University- San Francisco Bay Area.
>
> The research is seeking information that will be useful in the field of
sport psychology. If you decide to participate in this research, you will
be asked to complete questionnaires which are designed to collect
demographic information, information about sailing experience, and your
imagery ability. Following the completion of these questionnaires, you
will watch a video and/or listen to an audio segment focused on
technical and mental aspects of sailing an FJ. Then you will be asked to
complete the same imagery ability questionnaire again. The total time
required for participation is approximately 40 to 50 minutes, and you will
be able to participate at any time, during the week that data is
collected, in early October. Your participation would be greatly
appreciated.
>
> Please contact me at your earliest convenience either via email or phone
and I can answer any questions you might have, and put you on a
> participant list that will soon be contacted with information about how
to proceed. Please note, that in order to take part in the study, you
must be a current participant of college sailing and at least 18
years-old.
>
> Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to speaking with you
soon.
>
> Sincerely,
