After two spectacular days of breeze and sunshine on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, today dawned calm and overcast as the ten Kennedy Cup teams arrived ready for the final race of the series.
** ** Despite penalty problems in the last two races yesterday, by virtue of their ten point lead, Navy had already secured the overall title leaving Cal Maritime and SUNY poised to battle it out for second today. Coast Guard lurked 4 points back in fourth.**** ** ** PRO Taran Teague opted for the north course area east of Greenbury Point where a light NNE breeze was blowing. Howver the bottom fell out and Teague was forced to postpone. Things looked grim but as the ebb went slack and the overcast began to break up, a light ENE breeze came in providing some promise to those teams looking to move up. **** ** ** Teague quickly got a course set and the final race started. However, it wasn’t to be and the breeze dropped out again with Michigan leading the pack. Recognizing the futility of beating the time limit, Teague hoisted November over Alpha signaling racing was abandoned.**** So the results at the close of yesterday remain.**** Congratulations to the Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy who are this year’s Intercollegiate Big Boat National Champions! They qualified to represent the USA in next year’s Student Yachting World Cup.*** * ** ** Thanks again to the many volunteers who came together to make this year’s Kennedy Cup such a success!**** ** ** *Jahn S.
