When Competitors arrived for the 2012 Graham Hall Team Race, a light rain
was falling and the river looked fairly glassy. We held the competitors
meeting as scheduled at 0915 and while Ken Legler from Tufts was telling the
fleet about Graham Hall and all that he meant to college sailing, the skies
began to clear and the wind started to fill in out of the West. Racing
began at 1000 under mostly cloudy skies and a 5-8 knot westerly, which
shifted NW throughout the morning and increased to 15 knots before shifting
back to the West and lightening towards the end of the day. The last few
races were sailed in close to drifter conditions. The sun came out in the
afternoon and the temperature rose to near 60 degrees, making for some great
sailing conditions. Two N courses were set in the Severn River, just off
the Robert Crown Center. With such good conditions, we were able to
complete the initial 16 team round robin on the first day.

Sunday called for gold and silver round robins before a final four.
Competitors arrived to sunny skies and a moderate Northwesterly. As the
fleet headed out, the breeze picked up to 15-20 and stayed there the rest of
the day. The round robins were completed by 1:30 and one protest and two
redress request were heard before the top four schools headed out for a
final four round robin in FJs. Congratulations to the Georgetown Hoyas for
winning the 2012 Graham Hall Team Race.

A huge event like would not be possible without the help of a large number
of volunteers. On the race committee, we had LT Ben Herring, Kyle Assad,
ENS Robert Vann, CAPT Dick Morin(RET) and their team of midshipmen running
172 races over the course of the weekend. Keeping the fleet honest, ChUmp
Rob Overton and his team of Larry Sill, Doc Sullivan, Joel Labruzetta, Jimmy
Praley, Cole Allsopp, Carol Robinson, David Clinnin, JC Clinnin, Justing
Law, Nick Holtan, Katrina Williams, John Pearce, Herb Larrabee and Andrew
Cole spent the weekend on the water umpiring, leading to zero protest being
heard on shore. Scores were maintained online at
