Teams scheduled to attend the Pine Trophy September 8-9, 2012 hosted by the US Coast Guard Academy are: MAISA: U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Cornell University NEISA: Yale University, Roger Williams University, Brown University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Tufts University Report Time: 0930 Boats: Colgate 26, Crew of 4 Contact: Brian Swingly, 860-444-8325 [email protected]<javascript:_e({}, 'cvml', '[email protected]');> Named for Vice Admiral James Pine, Superintendent of the Coast Guard Academy when the Jacobs Rock sailing facility was built prior to World War II, the event began in 1943 as the International Star Class Championship of the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association. The US Coast Guard Academy had a fleet of stars at the time and the event was listed as an “official ICYRA Championship”, similar to the McMillan Cup and was held in Stars until 1953. From 1954-1976 it was and "All-Star" team race between NEISA and MAISA, sailed in Ravens and then Shields. For the next eleven years, the format was match racing. In 1988, it reverted to fleet racing, in J22s. Coast Guard and at least four other NEISA teams are chosen to compete, with unfilled other District berths going to additional NEISA teams (If you can fill in the blanks on previous winners please let me know) 1943 Yale Corinthian Y.
