Saturday:
It was a nice day of sailing in the Severn River for the first day of
the 2012 Intrepid Trophy Match Race. We had 8 teams in attendance,
sailing 2 lap windward leeward courses on Navy 26s. PRO Nancy
Haberland set a course in the mouth of the Severn River, near
Greenberry Point. The wind started NW, but shifted north and got
pretty wacky, keeping the RC on their toes. The wind started out at
10-12 knots, but dropped to 3-8 by the end of the day. We sailed
through flight 9 today, completing the first round robin and beginning
a second one. Thanks to all the coaches who served as judges along
with Jason Carminati, Marino DiMarzo, Devin Laviano and Markus
Edegran. After day 1, Georgetown leads with 8 points.

Despite a forecast for light wind on Sunday, we were able to sail all
day in 5-10 knots out of the NW and complete the event with a double
Robin and Top 4 and Bottom 4 rounds. The umpire team was bolstered
today by the addition of Andrew Cole and Jay Kehoe, keeping things
fair with tight racing throughout the fleet. Congratulations to
Georgetown for winning the 2012 Intrepid Trophy.

Final Results:

1. Georgetown - 14 points
2. Navy - 13 points
3. St. Mary's - 12 points
4. NY Maritime - 10 points
5. Michigan - 8 points
