8 teams arrived at the Naval Academy in Annapolis this morning to contest
the 2012 McMillan Cup.

PRO Ken Jacobs got race 1 started on time in a light northerly. Kings
Point jumped off to a solid start winning race 1 wire to wire with NY
Maritime close behind in second and Mass Maritime in third. The final 5
boats finished in a tight pack a few lengths back.

The northerly died as the ebb kicked in hard and competitors were forced to
stand by under AP until an unexpected easterly filled in. PRO Jacobs
reconfigured the course and race #2 got underway with the strong ebb now
pushing from pin towards the boat and across the course. Navy and NY
Maritime broke away at the boat end and stretched out to a decent lead.
But the wind became unstable and at times shut off completely. Navy held
their lead until halfway down the last leg when NY managed to sneak through
their lee as the fleet alternated tacks and sail selection between spin and
jib. NY held on for the bullet while Navy settled for second. KP came
back strong from a poor start to nail a 3rd.

That was all the wind and daylight the day could provide for today. Racing
will continue tomorrow.

A huge thanks to our race committee, safety officers and the NASS Social
Committee who hosted all competitors to a BBQ at the Robert Crown Center.
