Racing got underway at 10:20 on Crab Bank under clear skies for the 18 teams
that braved the sub-tropical temperatures. Four races in each division were
completed using inner and outer trapezoidal courses in a shifty 8-15 knot
northwesterly. One more race was completed after lunch using course 5B, a
modified gold cup, in a strong ebb tide before racing was called for the day.
An approaching front produced winds gusting into the thirties and conditions on
the Cooper River became quite gamey. No breakdowns or protests were filed.
