Wind for Sunday of the McMillan Cup exceeded forecast and expectations as a beautiful northwesterly filled in for Sunday's final three races.
Coast Guard started the day one point ahead of Mass Maritime and 3 ahead of Navy who came out of the blocks fast and won the first race with Coast Guard 2nd and Mass 3rd. While Navy was hoping to make it a three way shootout for the win, they took themselves out in the next race tacking away from their two competitors and the better breeze leaving Coast Guard and Mass to battle it out. Mass passed Coast Guard just before the finish to win the race while Navy suffered a 5th. For the final race, 3 boats were OCS while Coast Guard and Mass escaped clean. Again it was 1-2 with Mass taking the win and finishing the series tied with Coast Guard. However, Coast Guard beat Mass 4 races to 3 to win the 2013 McMillan Cup! Mass was 2nd while Navy was forced to settle for 3rd. Big thanks to all who helped make this year's regatta a huge success including PRO Keith Jacobs and his RC crew of NASS volunteers and Midshipmen, Chief Judge Dan Trammell and his jury who heard a number of protests, our cadre of volunteer safety officers, and to Joan Morin and her group who hosted all regatta participants to a BBQ Saturday evening at the Robert Crown Center. 1.
