Secara teori micro kernel (mach yang di develop di CMU) superior. Hanya
susah implementasinya. GNU punya project namanya GNU Hurd

untuk membangun kernel ini.
Banyak kelebihannya dibanding UNIX biasa, tapi ini yang mencolok:
Unix kernel features have been moved into unprivileged space. Once there,
anyone who desires can develop custom replacements for them. Users will be
able to write and use their own file systems, their own exec' servers, or
their own network protocols if they like, all without disturbing other
users.
Ini projectnya sudah lebih dulu dimulai daripada Linux/BSD. Sekarang debian
sudah mulai di port ke hurd. Dan lumayan berhasil.
