Today Access, the company that purchased PalmSource, officially unveiled its Linux based successor to the Garnet OS (formerly known as Palm OS). The Access Linux Platform 3.0, as it is known, supports not only native Linux applications, but also legacy Garnet OS applications as well as Java apps. ALP 3.0, as it is known, is also fully comliant with the LiMo Foundation's specifications for mobile Linux. Access also unveiled its new ALP mini operating system for feature phones. ALP mini is a stripped down version of ALP 3.0 that is meant for less powerful devices. ALP mini is available to manufacturers now, while the official availability date for ALP 3.0 has yet to be made public.
