Are you using a Mac? If so, then you might be encountering this bug:

Here's a workaround for the issue. You can configure the font size
manually by modifying ~/.idlerc/config-main.cfg
Make sure that "font-size" exists under the "EditorWindow" setting:
[EditorWindow]
font-size = 14
