The suggestions that the patent application be ignored themselves ignore 
the tendency of patent offices to issue bad patents.

It is very expensive to defend against a patent, no matter how poor the 
basis of the patent.

If the patent has not issued, there IS a means of filing a challenge to the 
PTO.  I don't know the details, but will enquire.
