After an IETF working group thoroughly explores a problem and its solution, the only effect that comes from re-hashing old issues is delay of the working group effort. A desire to be polite and diligent has turned into a denial of service attack on this important technical effort. There have been no new technical criticisms of the IDN specifications and the criticisms that are being raised pertain to matters that are beyond the scope of the working group and, indeed, pertain to an open research topic. Hence it is time to close discussion and advance the specifications. It certainly is time for polite, diligent people to stop responding to ofte-rrepeated, very old criticisms of the IDN work. Those making the challenges are interested in solving an important problem that is beyond the scope of the IDN effort. They should be encourage to continue their efforts, but not in the IDN working group. Continued discussion of their concerns validates their belief that the IDN working group must focus on this topic. Please folks, let's end this unproductive debate. d/ ---------- Dave Crocker <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Brandenburg InternetWorking <http://www.brandenburg.com> tel +1.408.246.8253; fax +1.408.273.6464
