The IETF Administration LLC is seeking community input on the cities of
Bengaluru (Bangalore), Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad and Mumbai, all in India, which it
is considering as future meeting venues. These cities are being considered for
IETF 128, March 6-12 2027, and IETF 131, March 18-24 2028. Other cities may
also be considered for those meetings
In line with our venue selection process we present assessment reports for each
city. Please note however, that we no longer provide any preliminary
recommendations, waiting instead until after we have received community
feedback before making a recommendation.
Bengaluru [1]
Delhi [2]
Goa [3]
Hyderabad [4]
Mumbai [5]
Community input is now sought on these assessment reports. In particular, local
feedback would be very much appreciated for the following:
1. For the cities of Bengaluru and Goa, no potential locations have been
identified that are suitable for an IETF meeting. These might be hotels with
multiple large meeting spaces, or a convention center with multiple rooms. We
generally plan for meetings of 1000+ people.
2. It is not clear to us how open and unfiltered Internet access is in India
and if we would need to make special arrangements for a completely open circuit
for the IETF network.
3. The two sections, 5.3 and 6.1, that assess the safety of the city from two
different aspects - in general and for specific demographics - is now largely
assessed by the lived experience of locals and visitors.
4. The reported air quality for Delhi is assessed as unsuitable and that for
Hyderabad is unclear.
To provide input, please email [email protected] with the name of the
city (or cities) in the subject line and your feedback. This is a publicly
visible one-way e-mail address: You can read the input [6], but you cannot
subscribe to it. Additionally, all feedback is collated and published on a
public Trello board [7]. If you wish to discuss venue selection, then please
use the public mailing list [email protected] but please note that any feedback
sent solely to that list will not be considered.
This call for input closes on 20 January 2025.
Finally, details of the selection process [8] and completed and outstanding
location assessments [9] are on our website.
