The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Updated Use of the Expires Message Header Field' (draft-ietf-mailmaint-expires-06.txt) as Proposed Standard
This document is the product of the Mail Maintenance Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Andy Newton and Charles Eckel. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-mailmaint-expires/ Technical Summary This document allows broader use of the Expires message header field for mail messages. Message creators can then indicate when a message expires, while recipients would use this information to handle an expired message differently. Working Group Summary This document had rough consensus in the working group, and though all issues were discussed, that did not satisfy all dessenters. Previous to being put into MAILMAINT, this document was discussed in DISPATCH as draft-billon-expires. Document Quality Section 10 lists the references to implementations. "Expires" has existed for a long time, going back to the X.400, but it's never been very clearly defined. Section 2 attempts to capture this history and Section 6 acknowledges the possible ambiguity. Personnel The Document Shepherd for this document is Murray Kucherawy. The Responsible Area Director is Andy Newton. IANA Note IANA noted one action to be taken, confirmed by shepherd and author on 22 April 2026. _______________________________________________ IETF-Announce mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected]
