Having written and run my share of gateways between mail and usenet over the past 25 years, I have to agree. Mail and news are similar, but they are different enough that I've always had to futz with headers on the way through. It's perfectly reasonable to think about putting DKIM signatures on news messages, and it may well be possible to define a useful common header subset so that you can sign a message and successfully transmit it both over both SMTP and NNTP. But it'd be a major overstretch at this point to say anything at all about NNTP in the current DKIM effort. We have no experience with DK or DKIM signed news and no experience with passing signed messages through mail <-> news gateways.
