I am talking about DNS lookup #2 in ADSP: the author domain.

_adsp.domainkey.example.com IN TXT (NXDOMAIN -> "unknown").
example.com A IN                   (NXDOMAIN -> "nxdomain").

By including "nxdomain" as a verifier result we can eliminate
a confusion and frustration.
