iFolder is one of the most sorted after product from Novell and
Novell has done a lot of investments in iFolder. We have had a
release of iFolder 3.6 last year (September - October 2007) along
with OES 2 and this year we will come up with the next version which
is iFolder 3.7 (packaged along with OES 2 SP1) .

Is iFolder 3.7 going to be released as an open source at least to the extent of iFolder 3.6? Or will it require me to purchase OES2 SP1 to get it? That's would be the only thing I need from OES, I don't want eDirectory, iManager nor any other related tools. They would be an overkill for the size and type of company I work for.

http://www.ifolder.com/index.php/Download still links just 3.2 and 3.4 versions and 3.6 can only be found in one personal folder in OpenSUSE build service which doesn't look like a place for an official release...

And how about clients? It's cool to have all OpenSUSE versions supported but there are other Linux distros as well and other operating systems. Namely MS Windows, now available in Vista version (you may have heard of it), and the only Win client I could find seems to be a beta for WinXP.

Don't take me wrong, iFolder is indeed a great technology, be it commercial or open source. It doesn't really matter. What matters is a lack of a clear indication that it's a living project, eventually opensourced in some way, supported, maintained, etc. The ifolder.com doesn't help it at all - it's full of wiki-spam and outdated misleading information.

I will give it a try with the builds from the Opensuse Build Service but will look for alternatives as well (any hints, guys?) as the current situation doesn't give me much confidence in the security of investment regarding time and effort spent on rolling iFolder out.
