Hi,
We're running out of diskspace. On our 70 GB array we have about 500
free MB left, and we don't even have all the Mandrake 7.2 ISOs yet.
I've tried to coordinate a hardware donation from Aduva but there
doesn't seem to be enough enthusiasm from our side. The mirroring
scripts will soon start failing due to lack of diskspace and there's
very little I can do.
One of the admins of the server has to take responsibility and help me
and the guys from Aduva to perform the upgrade. We need to give Ury
Segal the model of the drive that we need and their quantity, and
they'll buy those drives for us. Someone who knows what's going on
needs to decide what disks we need and where we're going to put them
(physically in the machine; perhaps we need an external housing now to
host all the disks).
As far as I understand, Aduva is also willing to buy us a RAID
controller, so that we can install a RAID 5 system and avoid the kind
of problems that we had before. We need to decide on the model we
want, too, probably mostly depending on its Linux support.
We also need to think out a way to backup the current archive, if we
don't want to download it all again. The best approach would be to
bring a DDS4 tape drive and back it up to a couple of casettes. Is
there anyone who can loan such a drive and two casettes? If not, we
can re-populate it from scratch, but it will take a lot of time -- I'd
say at least a couple of weeks.
Then someone (who's closer to the server in Haifa than me in
Jerusalem) needs to physically install the disks and the RAID 5 array,
and backup and restore the archive should we decide to do it.
Any hope for me to hear from one of you about this?
