The reason you had lots of problems was probably 'cause you weren't
doing it in Linux. I would suggest, like others, that you should think
about where you are heading. Even if you get the system running now
and realize their a security/crucial patch you need to apply or
upgrade to a newer version, you might have to face a lot of problems
again.

Among these, I have only used twiki once (if I remember correctly, it
is done in perl). If you haven't tried these 3 yourself, you should
try them out yourself and see which one you like -- usually the
project website provides access to demo sites using their wiki
software. My requirement when I was setting a wiki up was also being
able to authenticate users through an ldap server so I had to (at that
time) go for mediawiki.
