If you are a programmer and not a gaming enthusiast stability doesn't vary so soon. In CSE you definitely will be needed a Computer (different people uses differently for gaming, movies and some nerds for programming like me, but they are very less in number). Choice of Desktop or Laptop will vary usually between five or more factors 1.Price 2.Configuration 3.Mobility 4.customization 5.Future upgradation Desktop are cheaper for same configuration with no mobility than laptops more customization and easily upgradable. Laptop will be costly, less customizable and less or no upgrade except external hard disk. and yeah they gives power of taking your worlds with you. So choice is yours. As per Branch is concern there is no restriction in CSE you will need a Laptop only Desktop can also be suffice.
