thanks for this link. it contains the following information -
#

In general, BSD systems have a better reputation for reliability,
mainly as a result of the more mature code base.
#

BSD projects have a better reputation for the quality and completeness
of their documentation.

#

BSD can execute most Linux binaries, while Linux can not execute BSD
binaries. Many BSD implementations can also execute binaries from
other UNIX like systems. As a result, BSD may present an easier
migration route from other systems than Linux would.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In addition to that, BSD 'ran' Internet for almost 30 years. Its more
matured as far as practical applications are concerned. The TCP/IP
stack born as BSD code only and is the seminal implementation of these
protocols providing the reference for all the operating systems.

Linux got a chance just because BSD could bot be free and open due to
some pending legal processes.
