If its ethernet, my guess is you might have to try pppoeconf or is it
pppoe-conf (and people say "what's in a name?")

In general, Kubuntu 10.04 seems to be having quite a few problems on the
networking and audio features/drivers. It might be good to check through the
ubuntu forums, it might be solved or a work around given.

It may not work on K/Ubuntu live, I had sound/USB drive network problems on
my laptop, and had to get update the alsa and install usb-switch-mode to get
the USB also work as modem.
All said I haven't tried the Live CDs but its my gut feel, that the "Live"
way is of no use here.
