The way I look at it, Its just one more method/platform for reaching out to non-FOSS community. The very fact that there have been so many discussions, shows that its an important medium. More things need not be read into it. The other platforms are equally or more important to reach out to those in a position to accept FOSS but indifferent to it as of now. This is just another method of reaching people. Everyone knows the number of users on facebook which is everincreasing. Considering this, it makes sense to open a front there as well.
