Yes, teachers need to be trained too. The comment is being taken out of context. I didn't choose to reply to this email about 4 hours back but I am compelled to write it here. The point I was trying to make was for hostel photocopy shops (in IIT). Professors don't go there to get print outs. If a student is supposed to turn in a print out of a report, a professor in IIT never compels him to use a particular tool. Some professors may recommend/compel students to use matlab but that was not the point of this discussion. I hope I have clarified what was meant by that comment.
