Hi
I just ran into a situation, I have an old laptop running fedora 14 being
used by my room mate presently and another one running Ubuntu 10.10. He ran
into a problem while installing gnusim (8085 simulator) and asked for help.
I as usual logged into fedora14 using ssh and did the usual ./configure,
make and make install after resolving dependencies.

Just for fun, located the place where gnusim was installed and tried to
execute it on the terminal. I had expected it to complain something like no
display found, but it ran !!! And then we tried some other programs also and
they all ran successfully .. how was that possible?

I had tried to configure xforwarding it on Ubuntu once upon a time but never
did it on fedora laptop ... could it have been preconfigured on it ?
Can someone please help me understand what just happened?
