I would recommend against any FS which works only in Linux if you might have situations when you need the data on other OS. If that's not the case, you should go for ext4, or jfs. Both have journaling. And since the interface is usb, which uses lot of cpu while data transfer, jfs is a perfect fit here. jfs has known to have lower cpu footprint as compared to others.
