The U.S. President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness announced last week
that 50 companies, including AT&T, Boeing, Dell, Facebook, GE, and Intel,
have pledged that in 2012, they will offer twice as many engineering
internships as they normally do. At a minimum, the pledge should add 6300
internship opportunities. That’s good news for the next crop of engineering
graduates, considering that internships are almost a prerequisite for
getting a full-time job, and are the best way for students to get their foot
in the door. According to the National Association of Colleges and
Employers, companies turn more than half their interns into full-time
