The U.S. President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness announced last week that 50 companies, including AT&T, Boeing, Dell, Facebook, GE, and Intel, have pledged that in 2012, they will offer twice as many engineering internships as they normally do. At a minimum, the pledge should add 6300 internship opportunities. That’s good news for the next crop of engineering graduates, considering that internships are almost a prerequisite for getting a full-time job, and are the best way for students to get their foot in the door.
