Hello all FOSS lovers,

Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya (BVM) Engineering College is the first
Engineering College of Gujarat state (Estd in 1948). It is a Govt Aided
college. It is one of the 190 institutes nationwide selected under the
Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme phase - II (TEQIP-II)
project. I am a faculty member in the Computer Engineering Department of
this institute since July 1998.

Our institute is planning to organize a (one or) two week Short Term
Training Programme (STTP) on 'Free and Open Source Software for Engineering
Applications' (tentatively titled so). The planned duration is the last
(one or) two weeks of June 2015.

Following topics (not limited to these only, of course) are planned to be
covered along with tentative duration devoted to each:

   - *Linux Desktop Applications* (Different distros, Open office / Libre
   office, browsers, etc...) (0.5 day)
   - *Linux system administration*: Package installation, installing /
maintaining web server (1 to 1.5 day)
   - *Scilab* (2 days)
   - *Latex* (2 days)
   - Xfig / dia (0.5 to 1 day)
   - Gnuplot (0.5 day)
   - *Moodle* for academic purpose (1 day)
   - Python (0.5 day)
   - GIMP (0.5 day)

The targeted audience: Faculty members of different disciplines (not only
Computer/IT) and a few industry persons. The planned number of participants
is up to 60.

This email is to seek suggestions from all FOSS lovers for augmenting above
list with more topics that are relevant to the targeted audience mentioned
above. It will be further appreciated if some of you are willing to deliver
talk as expert speakers (*preferably from Gujarat*) in this STTP. (Note: We
have already identified experts for the bold-highlighted topics.) You may
also suggest names of other such experts you may be knowing. (Needless to
say, TA/DA and honorarium will be paid as per norms.)

Thanks,
--
Mayur
