Well, it's just a workaround but it's good enough for me for now. I
changed 'configure':
CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -DNDEBUG -Wall"
I.e. I removed '-O3'.
test-ffi.ss completes successfully. 'glut-demo.ss' runs too.

-O2 does not
