Many people have complained over and over that they cannot
subscribe to the google group list because they do not have
(and do not wish to have) a gmail account, e.g., having to
agree to some license agreements and such. So, the mailing
list would allow such users to subscribe to the mailing
list.
I am using the list solely through the Google Group
and I actually subscribed because it was also available
as Google Group.
I think (based on the previous test) that you can still use
the google groups web interface and your messages will pipe
to the mailing list. Similarly, posts to the mailing list
will still be viewable from google groups. The only thing
that's different is the mailing list address which is now
@ikarus-scheme.org instead of @googlegroups.com.
