although i'm not (yet?) a regular ikarus user, i'm following your
proposals and discussion of the libraries repository with interest, and
would really like to see this happening.

i don't have much to add to the many comments in the thread, except that
i agree with most of the conclusions so far, specially regarding
simplicity. but i wanted to point you out to a similar system that
solves, imho, very, very nicely most of the issues discussed here:
haskell's hackage/cabal/cabal-install combo (repo, packager, installer).
in my (granted, not very wide) experience, a pleasure to use both as a
developer and as a user. i've got the feeling that one could get many
good ideas from there, and even concrete implementation techniques.

(as an aside, once we've got ikarus and geiser integrated, hooking into
the library manager from emacs will probably be a source of additional
niceties... although i'm sure that eduardo will beat me on that :))
