I have noticed you have what looks a lot (well earlier revisions, 1527 I think) the same code in Ikarus as descibed by Waddell.

I pretty much copied it line by line from Oscar's dissertation.

Would looking at an early revision (of ikarus.compiler.source- optimizer.ss) help me get a better understanding, or is the code too Ikarus specific?

The Ikarus-specific parts are little. You should read Oscar's dissertation (Chapter 4 IIRC) and the code he has for better understanding. What I have in Ikarus does not add much (other than being executable).

Is the code for his thesis available online anywhere, or, if possible, can I please use the code in Ikarus if that is not a problem with you?

I don't think it's available. I had to type it by hand. If you want to save yourself the typing, be my guest. (I did find typing it slowly beneficial though if you try to understand everything you type as you're typing it.) Anyways, I don't claim ownership of that code, so, it's up to you what you want/can do with it. (and no, I didn't get Oscar's permission because I believe the whole point of having code published is so that people can use it; one does not publish proprietary or restricted information)
