*Benefits of e-learning* When Norlizah Che Teh heard that she was selected for an e-learning cluster programme, the English teacher thought it was going to be boring.
However, three months after the programme, Norlizah now firmly believes in its benefits not only for students but also teachers like herself. "It is about integrating ICT into the lessons," she said during a ceremony at the Perak Techno Trade Centre in Ipoh recently. Her school, SK Seri Ampang in Ipoh, was one of five schools from Perak selected to take part in the K-Perak E-Learning Cluster. The four other schools were SK Sri Adika Raja (Grik), SK Seri Bayu (Lumut), SMK Raja Perempuan Kelsom (Kuala Kangsar) and SMK Matang (Matang). Norlizah said students were given the freedom to do research for assignments and presentation. "Be it a podcast, PowerPoint, bulletin or other presentation method, it helps them to communicate better and improves their self-confidence. "And because they surf the Internet, students learn more and become more analytical. "We teachers also learn new things from our students' presentations," added Norlizah. SM Raja Perempuan Kelsom student Muf-fidah Hanim Ramly, 17, said her English and self-confidence improved, thanks to communicating with teachers and students in New Zealand via e-learning. State Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology Committee chairman Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the programme would be extended to other schools.
