I'm not sure what "piping" means here.

In any event, I don't see much of a benefit to having the daemon run a
script on the user's behalf.  I could possibly understand if it used
libkstat to get the information and return it as binary information,
but running a script doesn't seem like a good answer.  How do you know
you've got all of the localization issues right?
