Here's some various info that was passed on to me...

>1. The branch line is the IRL (Illinois River Line) which leaves the
>mainline at Plainfield at "SS IRL" (Spring Switch IRL). This is the old
>"Gardner, Coal City and Northern" Main Line that did go to Coal City.
>The "J" used it for Steam Loco Coal. The bridge that crosses the Illinois
>River is unusual in that it was built as a fixed span around 1896, and
>was made into a movable lift bridge in 1931 when the I & M Canal shut down.
> The span has an operator three times a week when the local crosses it.
> JSW-2 and JSW-3 are the regular assignments for the branch, and do use
>a caboose for the run.
>
>2. The road channel for the Western Subdivision will change to 160.260
>on November 29. This is the inservice day for the new Dispatchers Office
>in Joliet. The road channel for the East will stay at 160.350.
>
>3. Griffith has been Cutover for the new "J" signals. When the GTW
>Cutover their's (around 12/6) the tower will close. Get your pic's now!
> Tower is to be moved to the Griffith museum next to the tracks if they
>can find a mover.
>
>4. They still have "Jets" - The snow blowers you talked about are really
>quite common. The "J" has 6 in service, mostly at the hump in Gary.
