  You are right in some aspects. The Chrome OS is slated to use the
Linux kernel. So Linux will get better hardware support. But there is
nothing that suggests that it won't be able to dual boot.

  Anyway, this means there will be another bigger problem. It is hard
to get hardware manufacturers to release open/free drivers. They
always prefer binary only drivers, though that decision brings little
incentive. Experience tells that h/w manufacturers never learn until
free developers take apart their drivers, reverse engineer it and own
it. And this means that there will be more proprietary blob crap
attached to the Linux kernel -ready to take down the entire system
every time someone sneezes. In my two years of using Gnu/Linux, I have
seen atleast two instances of the system getting continuously crashed
by the proprietary NVIDIA driver. It is very hard to report or analyze
binary driver bugs. So expect a few more crashes and heartburns in the
future.
