In your case it is much simpler to do :

    Rename the link name corresponding to NIS server  in /etc/rcN.d
(N = runlevel)
    to SXX[servername] such that XX is a zero-padded number sufficiently
    large. The idea is : the links with lower numbers in them are loaded first.
