Content is the most important part of the website. Unique and quality content can give you true visitors and backlinks will automatically grow. There is no meaning in 'optimizing' to fool Google. They are smarter than we think. The only thing you can do is to avoid certain mispractices and do have some fair practices like
1) Sufficient and relevant internal linking 2) Apt usage of keywords. 3) Serving proper error codes (404 - not found, 303- redirect etc...) 4) Font colors with sufficient contrast between background to avoid hidden texts.( Also size large enough) 5) and a lot others which I I'm too restless to type... ;-) but remember, unique content is the most important part...
