Have you enabled Compiz? Try disabling all extra effects. >From desktop right click ChangeDesktopEffects ->Visual Effects->None I am suggesting because of the window-moving-in-pieces problem.That happened to me when i had wobbly effect in compiz enabled and dint have sufficient resources. -Srihari
