Hi,

Me too have the same problem in both Ubuntu & Mint

Inkjet Printers are using only one cartridge at a Time.
Color or Black that we can choose at the time of printing

By Default it will use colour cartridge only for printing.
That s y the black printout does not come if the colour cartridge is empty.

I have encountered the same problem with lot of HP Inkjet Printers.
Problem may not be with the Cartridge or Ink, it seems to be with the Driver
issue.
