Are you planning to improve the quality or the volume? If it is quality, try purchasing a better speakers or sound cards. If it is volume, then, as raru suggested, use pulse audio settings. It is available on right clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar. Here, you can fine tune your volume. Play any music while doing this, because you can get the feed back real time.
