internal dialup modems don't generally work with linux.. the makers of the modem only writes drivers for windows.. so with the drivers windows knows how to deal with them.. an opensource developer cannot write the driver since the specification describing how the modems work is not published.. the sum total of all this is that linux is very bad at dealing with internal modems..
some opensource developers have reverse engineered the drivers and has actually written drivers for internal modems so that they can work in linux.. but they will be buggy n will not work 100%.. if u want to know more goto..
