Well you dont need to download or install restricted extras, it will not make any good if you play games. For media players as and when you play the file the player will prompt you to add more libraries or codecs. If you choose to add restricted extras make sure you dont get icedtea packages. Remove openjdk and install sun instead. The best place to understand Ubuntu is the Forum hosted by Ryen. Go to ubuntuforum.com and do some research.
