Driver issues are a reality. But dependencies are automatically handled by most of the modern package managers. The driver issues are not an inherent problem of Gnu/Linux. The evil business practice of Microsoft is to be blamed for this lapse. OEMs hessitate to provide drivers for free OS. They get indirectly taxed, if they do. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_refund#The_.22Windows_tax.22). That is why, major h/w manufacturers sell windows pre-installed systems by default. They get a major discount, per copy of licence, by offering only windows to their clients. Small equipment manufacturers also get subsidized by not offering proper drivers for other OS. The subsidy may not be in terms of real money, but in terms of mass purchase. ie, they get more numbers of their product line to be bought out. -- "Freedom is the only law".
