Sirji,
Looks like you need an Ethernet NAT Router (home router/gateway),
not an ethernet switch. Basically, ADL assigns you one dynamic IP
address at a time (likely to be based on your system NIC MAC address).
For two systems to use internet, you need 2 IPs. This is not possible
when you use the ADL modem. The switch can only help you to connect 2
computers if you have 2 IP addresses.

The solution is to use a router. (info: switch works on layer 2 -
ethernet. Router works on layer 3 - IP). You need to use the router in
NAT (Network Address Translation) mode. That way, your modem will
assign the router only one dynamic IP address. But the router will
forward the data from the modem to two different static IP addresses.
For example, modems used with BSNL are often a combined modem + NAT
router.

And there is one more problem. If Asianet can get router's MAC ID
and can recognise it as a router, they could block it. I am not sure
if they do that, but their license agreement forbids you from using
more than one PC on one connection.

Gokul Das
