And several parts that make up a whole. But I am yet to see the UNIX philosophy being applied to GUI effectively. It is applied programatically and internally. GStreamer comes to mind. As far as a simple user of the GUI is concerned, I am unable to visualize how a user can apply the UNIX way of doing things and still remain sane. There are several powerful GUI applications available today. OOo, Firefox, etc. They run fine on UNIX, but where is the UNIX way of doing things when you are using these apps? We are talking about the differences between a user who want to use a simple GUI application and a pipes happy developer. I'm sure there is a difference. With Linux going mainstream, there will be more and more users who will just want to applications running on Linux(they actually won't care if it is FreeBSD) without worrying about the UNIX way of doing things. The first things they are going to be looking for is alternatives to Windows based software. They won't give a damn about the UNIX way of doing things. -- Shuveb Hussain B I N A R Y K A R M A Chennai, India.
