Hi All, Hope, everyone remember my earlier mail on possible implementation of open source software for regular day to day use in colleges.
As a follow up, i have prepared a team of 4 final year students in mahendra engg colelge, mallasamudram, tcode, and they have sourced a separate machine and installed wiki, blogs and forums in that machine. The principal seems to be encouraging these students.. I used the following setup.. 1. WAMP server 2. Mediawiki 3. Wordpress 4. phpBB I had a mobile conference with them, guiding them clearing their doubts.. Although, the above softwares are very simple, they had lot of obstacles, and now, they seem to be confident of installing and deploying the applications.. There was question of how to sustain these applications in future.. we have proposed to build a team comprising of students from 2nd year, in training on Open source web development, so that the skill set could continue in future.. Next step: -------------- To install a mail server (available in ubuntu server edition) and use an open source mail client, preferrably Thunderbird, at each of the officials systems. Initially, it would be configured in principal's system, all HOD's and staffs. Later, a web based mail client can be setup so that each student would be given a mail id, which they can access over the browser... Request: ------------ I do not have experience in setting up a mail server. So, can any one who has experience in this, pls let me know, so that i could contact in case of any help. Also, any inputs or suggestions regarding this are welcome..
