Hi Lugies, I have a 160 GB Sata Hard disk in which I had installed ubuntu and win xp with grub in the MBR.
Somehow the grub got corrupt and I removed the windows and installed mandriva with grub . But grub was not able to identify the ubuntu installation (I am not able to find the Ubuntu /boot partition )and hence i started installing ubuntu again. But during ubuntu installation from a live cd the partition tool shows the entire hard disk as a single partition and forces me to format the whole disk. I have tried creating fresh partitions using fdisk but that doesnt shw up in the partition tool which comes with ubuntu. fdisk was warning me that my cylinders no.s in harddisk is more than 1024 ,hence some partition tools may have problem with reading the partition table. gparted too shows the entire hard disk as a single partition. I have 100 GB of important data in my hard disk and suggest me a way to install back my ubuntu darling without loosing any of them.
